As 2017 comes to a close, The Pantone Color Institute unveiled its 2018 color forecast – the color palette that decorators and designers will use as inspiration for home decorating in the coming year, and colors with the power to instantly freshen up any room.
While it’s certainly not necessary to replace every piece of furniture or repaint your entire home; sprinkling a few accent pillows in Celery Green and Purple, adding a blue and orange geometric vase, or painting a powder room pearlescent ivory, can make a tired room look on trend.
One of the most exciting trends we’ll see going into next year is certain to add a bit of shine to your home. "Metallics we know are classic, but they have really moved over into neutrals," said Pantone Color Institute Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman. Eiseman also sees iridescence continuing to be prominent, as "the human eye can absolutely not avoid" focusing on things that are pearlized or translucent.
Eiseman also sees a move away from pastels in home décor and a movement towards bold and bright colors, "Intense colors seem to be a natural application of our intense lifestyles and thought processes these days," she said.
Ready to start decorating? Take a look at the eight color palettes you’ll be seeing in the most fashionable homes of 2018:
Playful: Think "Minions." Bright yellow, lime popsicle, and all other things fun come together for this color scheme. "People need to stop and smile," said Eiseman.
Discretion: Playful's alter ego. Subtle hues such as Elderberry and Hawthorne Rose offer a new sense of strength. "Pink has developed more power than ever before," said Eiseman.
Far-fetched: With warm, earthy hues such as Cornsilk Yellow blending with rosy tones, this palette "reaches out and embraces many different cultures," said Eiseman.
Intensity: This is an eclectic mix of colors that evokes a sense of strength, power and sophistication, all balanced with black and gold.
Intricacy: A palette of neutral metallics (AKA, the "new neutrals") with accents of dramatic Holly Berry red and yellow Sulfur.
Resourceful: A palette made up of complementary blue and orange colors. “This is quite an interesting color combination,” said Eiseman. “It combines warm and cool tones that you just can’t avoid looking at.”
TECH-nique: Bright turquoise, pink and purple colors anchored with Brilliant White and Frosted Almond nod to technology. This palette is all about hues "that seem to shine from within," said Eiseman.
Verdure: Vegetal colors like Celery are combined with berry-infused purples and eggshell blue, symbolic of health, in this palette.
There you have it, the color palette of 2018 and the very latest suggestions to help turn any space into a modern showplace.
